Vintage Edme Coffee Cup and Saucer - Wedgwood

SOLD

Edme has been in production for around a century and is enduringly popular. This is a small coffee cup and saucer set in ivory. The date mark on the saucer is for 1957, the cup is I think, a little older. They are in excellent condition although the cup has a small underglaze stain on the foot (see pic) and may actually be a second. They will need a deep clean as there are some ingrained marks in the fluting.

Cup: 6cm (h) x 8.5cm across handle
Saucer: 13cm

Leaf Shaped Wooden Plate

SOLD

Large fruit, sandwich or sweet dish hand carved from what could be oak (the leaf is vaguely oak leaf shaped). It's quite heavy as it's over a cm thick but it's in good condition with few surface marks.
Approx 30cm x 19cm

Vintage-Black-Jug-with-Red-Dots-Alcock-Lindley-Bloore

Lovely small black jug with handpainted red dots between two gold bands. There is also a gold flash on the handle. It is by Alcock, Lindley & Bloore (the mark is just about discernible) who traded until 1979. In excellent condition.

Small Welsh Lovespoon

Small wooden Welsh Love Spoon. Heart shaped handle and cut out, this has been cut on a jig but hand finished. I am never sure of the wood here but it's nicely grained and quite light, possibly ash.

Vintage Small Fauna Range Spill Vase No 41 - Eastgate

Highly collectable early production spill vase from the Fauna range featuring a resting faun by a tree trunk. It bears the "gate" mark on the base and form number 41.  It's in near enough perfect condition.

Vintage Slipware Vase - Schofields Penrith

SOLD

Vintage earthenware vase by Schofield's/Wetherigg's Pottery of Penrith. It has a blue and white drip glaze and is marked Schofield Penrith on the base. Always difficult to date. Schofields ran the pottery from the mid-19th century and it was in the same hands for over a hundred years. It used several marks in that time but not in any particular order and this one could have been used any time from 1920 onwards. It is quite crazed but is in otherwise excellent condition.

14cm x 7.5cm

Vintage East German Jug

SOLD

Solid, if unspectacular, caramel coloured 1.1 litre jug from the DDR (East Germany). I have seen the mark on the base several times before but nobody seems able to identify it conclusively! Suffice to say, it's in perfect condition.

14cm x 17cm

Japanese Studio Pottery Leaf Tray

SOLD

Beautiful leaf shaped Japanese earthenware dish with a mixture of clear and coloured glazes on the top surface. Largely unglazed underneath although the gold speckles at the tip extend around the underside edges for about 3cm. It has a mark but I'll only find out the maker's name if I find it by accident! Excellent condition.

32.5cm x 16.5cm x 3cm

Vintage Japanese Bowl - Noritake

Small double handled bowl featuring a handpainted sunset and river view. Very pastoral. It's stamped with a Noritake mark that was in use between 1905 and 1939 although I make no claims for its veracity. The style is certainly fairly typical of some of their products and the wear consistent with that kind of age. The edges would have been gold lined but most is worn away. There's a little wear to the surface of the bowl but it's not too bad and doesn't really detract.

Vintage Art Deco Burleigh Ware Bowl - Burgess & Leigh

This is a fairly large mottled green Burleigh Ware bowl with the "hive and leaves" backstamp dating it to the 1930s. It is a beautiful shape and is free from nicks, cracks and chips. The only fault is with the glaze, which seems to have run and pooled in the bottom somewhat and is uneven on one side of the pedestal part, prompting me to think this is possibly a production second. I live near The Potteries and I see a lot of perfectly good items with small glazing faults - just enough to keep them from general sale, factory second shop or export and it is reasonable to surmise they may have been passed on to pot bank workers in lieu of being scrapped. A little bit of social history perhaps? It is nevertheless still a smart looking bowl.

Wooden Seven Dials Game - Lagoon Games

Game of "Seven Dials" - a dot matching game with over 250,000 possible solutions. Sculptural Cast Iron Candle Stand

SOLD

I think this is a candle stand or something similar. It's made in the Irish Republic from what appears to be cast iron. It's a human form, probably female, holding aloft a tray. This has a small rim and whether it is designed to hold a candle or not it's difficult to say. Regardless, it's an interesting little thing in its own right and bar a couple of small rust stains it's in excellent condition.

Vintage Bone China Gravy Boat and Stand - Coalport Revelry

Beautiful and ornate large (8") bone china sauce boat and oval stand by Coalport. They are in the Revelry pattern, blue banded with cherubs, goats and festoons. Both items are rimmed in gold with gold decoration on the handle. The only fault I can see is that the centre decal on the stand is slightly off-centre but in service this will invariably be covered. Overall quality though is extremely good. I have seen "good" versions of this item on replacements sites for extortionate rates - bid for a bargain!

Vintage Small Green Bowl or Planter with Vine Design - 240 Dartmouth Pottery

New and Unused in Box - 9" Flan Dish Heron Cross Pottery

New and unused oven to tableware 9" (23cm) flan dish, still in its original packaging, by Heron Cross Pottery of Stoke on Trent. It has a honeysuckle design and is microwave and freezer proof. The packaging is for protection only and it is a few years old and the top is open so while it doesn't have any chips, cracks or marks it needs a good clean to remove the storage patina.
Package size: 24.5cm x 4.5cm

Vintage German Drip Glaze Miniature Jug Vase

SOLD

Nice little jug vase in very typical German multi-coloured drip glaze style. You can just make out the impressed marks on the base - I think it's 572 8 (the height) Germany. Interestingly, look closely with a lens in the right light and whoever applied the glaze appears to have left a fingerprint on the base. These are often with gilded rims and detail although there's no sign of any here and it's in otherwise excellent condition.

Vintage Small Handpainted Beaker - Schwaz Tirol

SOLD

Unusual inverted bell-shaped beaker with handpainted flower design. The backstamp is rendered largely unreadable as it's been done over the incised marking. From the general style of the stamp and the design I think it's from Schwaz in the Austrian Tirol. I cannot be any more accurate than that I'm afraid. A little crazing on the inner base but otherwise excellent.

Vintage Tall Coffee Pot - Royal Worcester Palissy

Large coffee pot by Royal Worcester Palissy. Khaki cone lid, speckled cream body with brown floral design. I thought I would be able to find the name of this design easily but I have only come across one other item and that wasn't named either. Maybe somebody out there can help me? It is impressed "Palissy England" on the base and apart from one small chip to the foot ring it's in excellent condition.

Vintage Shallow Green Vase - 223 - Dartmouth

Vintage Studio Pottery Stoneware Preserve Pot

Novel Ball Shaped Studio Pottery Mug

SOLD

Splendid graperfuit sized spherical mug with chalky wash glaze and string bound handle. There is a mark under the handle join but I can't find it in my references and it may not be British - possibly Icelandic or Japanese. It is a beautiful thing though and whether or not it's practical, it's a fantastic display piece.

Vintage Wooden Tray and Cup Set with Glass Beakers

SOLD

Interesting little wooden tray and cup set. It's a small ten-sided tray with chamfered edges and a set of four glass beakers with five-sided wooden holders. Not sure of the wood, there's a variety of shades and there may be a couple of different timbers involved but it's well made with very few marks. Very nice retro look set.

Vintage Primula Salt & Pepper Pots - Carlton Ware

SOLD

These are unmarked and I think were once part of a set but I think they are almost certainly Carlton Ware. They are a pair of yellow miniature salt and pepper cellars with a pink primula design. The pepper pot has a small chip on the foot ring but otherwise they are in excellent condition and have the original cork bungs.

Antique Salter No 2 Spring Balance

SOLD

Vintage/antique brass fronted spring balance by Salter. To weigh 25lbs with marks for every 1/2lb. Front is brass, casing is japanned plate. The brass is in good order, slightly bent at the top end but not overly noticeable . Rust has broken through the coating on the casing and the ring and hook are lightly corroded. Otherwise it is in good working order.

Antique Ceramic Inhaler

SOLD

Vintage/antique "Improved Inhaler". Large white earthenware bulb with cork stopper and glass mouthpiece, used for treating asthma and other respiratory ailments. These were produced for many years from the Victoria era onwards and by several manufacturers. This one is unmarked and I cannot age it accurately. The stopper is in most parts complete, only a little has flaked away from the top and I have not removed it. I have though slid out and cleaned the mouthpiece. This is complete and undamaged bar a little wear around the crimped top part. The bulb is in perfect condition.

Handcarved Wooden Tortoise Shaped Ashtray

Small hand carved wooden ashtray comprising two tortoises joined at the tail. I am guessing it's an ashtray solely because of the grooves just behind the heads, however it's quite small so could be something else. It's a very dark red wood, with a purple hue, slightly reminsicent of the rosewood fingerboard on my guitar (as you may spot, timber identification is not my forté!). It's a sweet little thing though, an unusual addition to your tortoise collection and in excellent condition.

Pair of Vintage Green Stoneware Vases

This is a pair of green aerographed stoneware vases, flared at both ends. While they are ostensibly identical, one is slightly shorter with a slightly smaller base suggesting they are individually thrown rather than moulded. There is a small unglazed spot on the rim of the smaller one, too. The only marking is an impressed W on the base of each. The larger of the two has a few paint spatterings on it that can be removed. The coating, colour, style and moreover, feel, suggest they are of a good vintage, possibly 1920s although I am being deliberately vague and non-committal. A nice pair.

Vintage English Plastic Tortoiseshell Dressing Table Tray and Bowl

Plastic imitation tortoishell tray and bowl, I think part of a dressing table set. It's stamped Made in England and is similar to ware produced by Halex, although their stuff was usually marked as such. The pot has a good fitting lid with a pointed finial. The tray has a little scrape on the inside edge  and the expected surface wear but considering its age - around 60 years old - both items are in surprisingly good overall condition.

Tray: 25.5cm x 19cm x 2cm
Bowl: 13cm x 7.5cm (incl lid and finial)

Vintage John Bull OXO Tin

SOLD

48 cube OXO tin featuring John Bull enjoying a steaming mug of beefy brew. It dates from the Brooke Bond Oxo years, so pre-1984, although the reverse does bear a bar code. There is also a Tesco price label on one end. This was priced at £1.35, roughly the same price as a box of 12 cubes now. Top of the tin is in good condition with only a little wear on the edges; the base is somewhat corroded but still readable.
