Vintage Tankard Shaped Mug - Secla Portugal

Large retro shaped mug in a toffee coloured glaze and plain white inner. It is stamped "Portugal" on the base and I'm almost certain it's by the Secla concern. But if I'm wrong, I apologise! In great condition with only some barely visible fine crazing.

11cm x 12.5cm

Vintage Pennine Mug - Wedgwood

Single mug from the Pennine range designed by Eric Owen. There is a chip in the rim opposite the handle but this appears to be original as it's been glazed over so this is almost certainly a second otherwise it's in very good condition.

Vintage Green Stoneware Mug - B R Stoneware, Burton

SOLD

Large heavy mug in green slip glazed stoneware by BR Stoneware of Burton. There isn't much information about B R Stoneware out there but it does seem to confuse some people with some calling it Bretby. The Bretby backstamp is fundamentally different although whether there is a connection, I don't know. In lovely condition though and full of character.

Measurements are approximate: 9.5cm x 11.5cm max diameter incl handle

Large Brown Mug or Jug "Explore" by Patricia Ryan - Miam Miam

Unusual large mug in the "Explore" pattern by Patricia Ryan. Now I have to say that as a mug it does seem rather impractical as it's difficult to sip from (I've tried it - the drink arrives quickly as it tips into the bulbous top half. And the spouts are narrow). As a jug however it works better and you don't even need to change hands for pouring left or right. They are though highly popular. Maybe I just don't have the knack. In excellent condition.

Vintage Log Effect Mug - Wade

Very robust treacle glazed log effect mug by Wade England. It is very heavy (490g on its own) and quite thick and the backstamp I think dates it to around the early 1950s. In excellent condition.

Vintage Tall Slender Mug - Wade Ireland

Tall slender mug by Wade, Ireland. Quite heavy with typical khaki glaze with blue tinges (the line of blue around the base almost glows). The backstamp I think dates it to the 1950s but I always advise caution when attributing dates. It's in splendid condition.

Vintage John Cuffley Designed Libra "Zodiac" Mug - Portmeirion

Vintage black mug from the John Cuffley designed Zodiac range. This one is "Libra", with the scales on one side and a long character description on the other, both in gold. In excellent condition - it looks unused, to be fair. There's a small flake missing on the foot ring but colour ingress over part of it suggests this was prior to glazing and not recent damage.

Vintage Large Green Celtic Mug - Arklow Pottery, Co. Wicklow, Ireland

SOLD

Very large mug by the now defunct Arklow Pottery of Co. Wicklow, Eire. Very Celtic inspired design with lots of intertwining, knotting and plaiting. I feel I ought to know what the image is, maybe someone out there can enlighten me. Arklow went under in the late 1990s so these are becoming rare. Apart from a little staining on the inside bottom, that will remove with a bit of effort (I've cleaned it up quite a bit), it's in excellent condition. Very nice looking object.

Vintage Left Handed Pale Studio Pottery Mug

SOLD

Small cream coloured mug with a very pale yellow and purple flower design. Interestingly the design is on the out facing side if held in the left hand, something I don't see very often. It is marked, with an monogram of M & F under the handle although I can't identify this. I would imagine it to be a few years old although it's in good condition.

Vintage Delicate Studio Pottery Stoneware Mug - York Rose Pottery

SOLD

Very delicate waisted stoneware mug from the York Rose pottery. It has a brown drip glaze and small handle. The sides are very thin, only about 2mm at the bottom so it has a very lightweight feel although it does have little touches of the later York Rose designs in the overall shape. It had a huge layer of dust in it when I obtained it so I think it had been sitting around for a few years! One very small flea bit on the rim, just about visible in the pictures otherwise in very good condition..

Vintage My Fair Lady - Pygmalion Mug - Wade Ireland

Vintage Irish porcelain mug by Wade Ireland featuring scenes from Pygmalion and/or My Fair Lady plus an image of a saintly George Bernard Shaw. There are several different sized and shaped Wade Ireland mugs bearing Pygmalion scenes - this is a large one with substantial handle and knurled base. It was extremely dirty when acquired - you may notice it's still got a few grubby patches in the photo but rest assured it will be clean when dispatched and is in fine condition underneath. There is a small chip to the underside of the footring but this is not visible in normal use.

Vintage Blue Mug - Holkham Pottery

SOLD

Large and very distinctive blue mug by Holkham Pottery.  It's decorated with festoons around the necks and belly and has the number T117 impressed on the base. Apart from being crazed it's in very good condition. Holkham ceased production in 2008, I think this dates from around the late 1960s - early 70s.
