Antique Silver Plated 1 Pint Tankard - The Champion Pub, Bayswater Road

An antique, certified 1 pint, tankard in a heavy EPNS that is stamped on the base "The Champion Bayswater Road". On the front, opposite the handle, is an ornate engraved monogram, "TC". The verification mark, E, is for Edward VII (our present monarch would be EIIR) and the Verification Authority number is 2, City of London. Edward VII reigned between 1901 & 1910 so it is safe to suppose that this is well in excess of 100 years old. It is a little dented around the base and the surface is a little corroded and oxidised - the close-up of the verification mark gives a fair representation of the general condition.  Considering its age though it is still very robust and can be easily restored with some buffing and if need be, professionally re-plated. I have given it a cursory polish and it has improved no end from the state it was in when I obtained it. The Champion is still a thriving pub - perhaps you're a regular who would like a special memento of your favourite local.

Vintage Tall Slender Mug - Wade Ireland

Tall slender mug by Wade, Ireland. Quite heavy with typical khaki glaze with blue tinges (the line of blue around the base almost glows). The backstamp I think dates it to the 1950s but I always advise caution when attributing dates. It's in splendid condition.

Very large, and quite wonderful, monochrome blue tankard, in the 156 shape. Very difficult to age. The shape was probably in use in the 1940s although this particular item could be earlier or later. It is though in splendid condition.

Modern Pewter Tankard with Ornate Handle - Wentworth

Modern one pint tankard by A.R. Whitworth, made during the last 20 years or so, It has a rather ornate handle of a pattern still used by the company. It does have a few marks, mainly from polishing and some light scratching from rubbing against other items during storage. Many of these marks will buff out pretty well. Brand new these retail for around £25. Please note, while designated as 1 pint, it does not have a certification mark.

Vintage Half-Pint Pewter Tankard - James Yates

SOLD

Good quality half pint tankard of substantial thickness and weight by James Yates. The history of James Yates is convoluted and the right to use the name, molds and touches has passed between many companies, including Gaskell & Chambers who held the rights until their own demise in 1983. This design is based roughly on the G & C 14/4027 design appearing in their catalogues of the mid 20th Century. It has the ABPC mark on the base which would date it post 1970 so we can date it fairly accurately. It does have a couple of nicks and scratches but nothing too drastic and with a bit of elbow grease it buffs up quite well.

Vintage Ceramic Tankard or Mug- Lord Nelson Pottery

Large tankard shaped mug by Lord Nelson Pottery. It's in a treacle glaze with silvered rim and handle and features a cartoon of an Edwardian gentleman cranking his motor (ooh er missus) about to be joined by his impossibly corsetted wife. The opposite side features a small cartoon of the gent alone in his car. The mark on the base suggests it was made in July 1979 and apart from some crazing it's in fine condition. The silvering especially is totally unmarked. A fine addition to your collection.

Vintage Treacle Glazed Tankard w/ coaching Scenes - Ridgways

Dating from the late 1950s - early 60s this is a treacle glazed tankard shaped large mug with silvered rim and handle. It features two illustrations from "Coaching Days and Coaching Ways" by  W. Outram Tristram, originally published by Macmillan and Sons in 1988 but seemingly continuously available in one form or another for almost 100 years. The illustrations are "Down the Hill on a Frosty Morning" and "Changing Horses". These tankards are not uncommon but to find one in excellent condition is becoming more difficult. There is some general crazing and a little bit of wear to the silvering on the handle where the thumb would rest but otherwise it's in very good shape indeed.
