Vintage Handpainted Jug - Pattern 8166 - Grays Pottery - Susie Cooper

Hand painted buff coloured jug by Grey's Pottery. It has the later Pharaoh's boat version of the backstamp used between 1935 & 45 but on an unfamiliar colourway, this one being red and yellow flowers with what appear to be gooseberries, with a red rim and handle. My reliable internet authority has contacted me suggesting that it is floral pattern 8166, dating originally from 1928 and possibly by Susie Cooper. The later backstamp explained by it probably being a replacement piece from the company's matching service. Some ingrained crazing and a little colour wear plus a short hairline crack on the inside beneath the yellow flower. Still looks nice though.

Vintage "Astra" Milk Jug - Crown Ducal

Milk jug in the "Astra" pattern by Crown Ducal. In tan with circular designs and white drip glaze, it has the Crown Ducal stamp and the diamond shaped AG Richardson stamp on the base. The marque ended in 1974 so this is 1960s/70s vintage - another pattern presumably inspired by Portmeirion's Totem design. In ecellent condition.

Please note this is "Astra" as opposed to the similar "Concorde Astra".

Antique Ironstone Milk Jug - Anthony Shaw, Burslem

Antique milk jug with ornate handle by Anthony Shaw of Burslem in a rather sturdy and undecorated white ironstone, "Stone China". The backstamp dates it to approximately between 1860 and 1882. At one time it would have had a hinged pewter lid but this has broken off leaving only the two lugs still in situ either side of the handle. Apart from a little crazing it's in excellent condition for its age. When I acquired it it was covered in a horrible orange paint and I have done my best to remove it all but there may be the odd rogue spot in the recesses.

Vintage Large Grey Lustre Jug with Crimped Handle - Prinknash

SOLD

Large milk jug by Prinknash in their familiar grey lustre finish. The handle and footring are unusual in that they have a crimped finish and although there are probably plenty of these about, it is the first time I have encountered this particular detail - and I have sold a lot of Prinknash! There are a few small marks but nothing serious and it is largely in excellent condition
