Vintage Hand Painted Bowl - Portmadoc Pottery JW

Lovely handpainted bowl with embossed fruit design around the rim. It's not marked as such but it has all the hallmarks of being from the Portmadoc/Porthmadog Pottery, with blue brushstrokes and part matt glaze on the base. It is also marked JW in crayon, another Portmdoc trait.  It's in perfect condition.

Small and Heavy Brass Coloured Bwol or Planter

Small round bowl with very heavy base (weighs 900g) made from what appears to be cast brass. It is certainly the right colour but I can't guarantee the metal. It has a very satisfying ring though! Some stains on the inside - I think it may have been used as a planter - and a couple of small ones on the outside but I think it will buff nicely.

Handpainted Bone China Blue & Gold Lustre Bowl - Lyme Studio

Lyme Studio are a decorating studio specialising in commemorative and gift ware and are finished to a high standard. All items are unique but they tend to use several main colourways with 22 carat gold detailing. This is a two handled bone china bowl, with a very satisfying "ting", finished in what I believe is their Lapis Lazuli colourway and gilded rim, handles and footring. It's signed by the artist, Vivienne J. Evison on the base. A lovely looking item in excellent condition.

Vintage Small Handpainted Green and Yellow Bowl - Portmadoc Pottery

SOLD

Stunning little bowl by Portmadoc (Porthmadog) Pottery in Wales. Details of the pottery are sketchy but they are believed to have operated from the 1970s until the 1990s. This is fairly typical of their output, quite delicate and light with drip glazes. It is unsigned but the backstamp and base are both pristine. The inside bottom is a little crackled but otherwise it's bright and in excellent condition.

Vintage Pale Blue Double Handled Fine Stone Bowl - Copeland Spode

Vintage pale blue double handled fine stone bowl. I am no expert on Spode and I am unsure of the shape or age. However, there is no date mark and I do believe that one was omitted in 1981, which may be a clue. It's in excellent condition bar two small marks, a dark one and a short yellow line, both on the same side and both appear to be underglaze.

Small Light Wooden Bowl

Simple lightweight and light coloured wooden bowl, ideal for snacks or sweets. Very nicely grained. It has a couple of small surface marks, many of which look to be removable although there is a small area of light scratches but all in all it's in very good condition.

Vintage Miniature Fluted Sugar "Sunbuff" Sugar Bowl - Grays Pottery

SOLD

Beautiful hand painted sugar bowl in the "Sunbuff" pattern by Gray's Pottery. It is on a fluted buff coloured blank from Johnson Brothers, the stamp for which can be seen beneath the Gray's mark. Quite legitimate as Gray's were decorator's and occasionally their base items were already stamped. This can aid in dating and the combination here puts this to between 1935 & 1945. It's in excellent condition.

Vintage Purple and Orange Bowl - Leighton Pottery

Medium sized fruit bowl by the short-lived Leighton Pottery of Burslem (although the forerunners, Bourne & Leigh had been going for 60 years previously). It's of a burgundy repeated sponge pattern on white ground and has the mark on the base that was used between 1946 & 1954, the end of business.  It is in reasonably good condition. It is crazed all over but not too noticeably and there is a small graze to the rim that looks as though it's been there for decades. It looks as though at one stage it had an all-over orange tinge. The outside is still original; the inside has gone from around halfway down. There are still traces that make me suspect it's the action of the fruit or whatever contents it haeld that has degraded the colour over the years. Still a nice pot though.

Diameter: 18cm x 7.5cm

Vintage Small Agate Ware Bowl - Alton Towers Pottery

SOLD

Small bowl from Alton Towers Pottery in their signature agate design. Unfortunately the foot ring was chipped and somebody has tried to build up the gap with some epoxy resin although it's quite steady and can be turned away from view, it doesn't look great. Someone with a bit of modelmaking skill and a hot craft knife could possibly make it look a lot better though.

Vintage Japanese Bowl - Noritake

Small double handled bowl featuring a handpainted sunset and river view. Very pastoral. It's stamped with a Noritake mark that was in use between 1905 and 1939 although I make no claims for its veracity. The style is certainly fairly typical of some of their products and the wear consistent with that kind of age. The edges would have been gold lined but most is worn away. There's a little wear to the surface of the bowl but it's not too bad and doesn't really detract.

Vintage Art Deco Burleigh Ware Bowl - Burgess & Leigh

This is a fairly large mottled green Burleigh Ware bowl with the "hive and leaves" backstamp dating it to the 1930s. It is a beautiful shape and is free from nicks, cracks and chips. The only fault is with the glaze, which seems to have run and pooled in the bottom somewhat and is uneven on one side of the pedestal part, prompting me to think this is possibly a production second. I live near The Potteries and I see a lot of perfectly good items with small glazing faults - just enough to keep them from general sale, factory second shop or export and it is reasonable to surmise they may have been passed on to pot bank workers in lieu of being scrapped. A little bit of social history perhaps? It is nevertheless still a smart looking bowl.
