Vintage Midnight Blue Pot w/ Wooden Lid - Hornsea Heirloom

SOLD

Small lidded jam, preserve or sugar jar from the John Clappison designed Heirloom pattern in the gorgeous Midnight Blue. It has a notched wooden lid for a spoon so probably not best used for jams or honey. The wooden lid is a mystery - it certainly fits the Heirloom style, and it's in excellent condition, but I've searched a few sites and not seen anything similar. The jam pot or sugar bowl lid will should fit though - please check sizes with me if you're looking to replace a broken item. The backstamp is the 1980s version and it is in absolutely perfect condition.

Nest of Three Carved and Brass Inlaid Wooden Boxes

SOLD

Very nice set of three nested wooden boxes, probably sheesham, each with a diagonal floral pattern hand carved into the lid with inlaid brass leafes and branches. They are well made with brass hinges and all lids close snugly. The inside of the lid and base are covered in red velveteen, slightly more plush in the largest box although none are particularly worn, the fibres just compressed from storage. They do not appear to have been used much, if at all, and are therefore in very good condition with very few surface marks.

Small: 13.5cm x 5.5cm x 3.3cm. Compartment: 11cm x 3cm x 2cm
Medium: 17cm x 9cm x 4.5cm. Compartment: 14.5cm x 6.5cm x 3cm
Large: 20.3cm x 12.7cm x 6.3cm. Compartment: 17.5cm x 9.8cm x 4.5cm

Pink Elephant Water Jug - Hornsea Fauna

SOLD

Lovely Hornsea Pink Elephant bar water jug from the Hornsea Fauna range of around 60 years vintage - the mark on the base of this dates it to around 1955. It is well detailed, the barrel with the legend "Take More Water With It" (presumably as you're in a pub and seeing pink elephants). As well as the backstamp, there is an impressed C1 on the base.  There is a tiny flea bite on the rim to the left of the trunk (facing - see detail - looks worse in picture than in real life) and on the same side nearer the spout, a very fine hairline crack about 1cm long, just about visible in the close up of the barrel. It is otherwise sound and in very good condition.

Cobalt Blue and Gold Miniature Rococo Vase - Meissner Limoges

SOLD

Small urn shaped and rococo styled vase by Meissner of Limoges in cobalt blue with gilded handles, rim and base. One side has a Fragonard inspired picture, also gold coloured. There is a numbr on the base, V.28 C, a shape number I believe. There is a little bit of wear to some of the guilding around the base but  it's not overly noticeable and it is in otherwise very good condition.

Vintage Small Blue and White Cream Jug - Aviemore Pottery

SOLD

Small light blue/aquamarine and ivory coloured milk jug by Aviemore Pottery. I know next to nothing about Aviemore Pottery but I believe it to be long gone. I have had an item with a label on it in the past which I believe suggested it was working in the late 1970s but that is about the extent of my knowledge! This certainly looks to be of around that vintage - there is a little wear to the inside of the jug where it has become crazed but it is in otherwise very good condition. Aviemore is quite collectable - move fast!

Pale Pink Posy Basket - Govancroft Stoneware

This dates from around 1950 and is by Govancroft Stoneware of Glasgow, one of the major Scottish potteries of the 20th Century. It is a pale pink posy vase in the shape of a basket. It does have one or two surface marks but no chips or cracks as far as I can see and is in excellent condition generally.

Harrods Blue Stilton Cheese Storage Jar

Vintage custard coloured blue stilton cheese jar from Harrods. it bears the 071 telephone number which would date it to between 1990 and 1995. No maker's mark but it is in excellent condition.

Wooden Mortar & Pestle

SOLD

Rather striking wooden mortar and pestle in a very heavily grained but quite lightweight wood, possibly a burr. There are a couple of light marks, perhaps water stains, but otherwise it's in excellent condition and I think unused and as such untainted although owing to the stains I have listed it as used.

Mortar: 10.5cm (d) x 10cm; Pestle: 17cm long

Vintage Silvered Earthenware Sugar Bowl

SOLD

Sugar bowl in a silver lustre glaze with green band. It is unmarked apart from a decorator's mark,  1324/3, but the colour of the clear glazed earthenware clay is very reminiscent of Gibsons or similar popular Staffordshire ware of the early to mid 20th Century. It's in fine condition with only some very light signs of wear on the silvering.

Small Studio Pottery Style Earthenware Mug

SOLD

Beautiful earthenware mug, very delicate and lightweight, with a light wash on the inside and a thick greenish slip glaze over the outside. Very striking. It is marked with what appears to be an LM or LN or even LD monogram but I have been unable to trace the mark. In excellent condition.

Heavy Carved Wooden Duck

Beautiful hand crafted wooden duck. I am quite hopeless at identifying wood but this is quite heavy with a lovely colourful grain. It has a rounded underside so does not sit still, rather it is wont to spin and rock if touched as it balances on one point only. Really nice unusual piece in splendid condition.

Stoneware Goblet with Durham Cathedral Knocker - Jerry Harper, Blacktoft

SOLD

Lovely stoneware chalice shaped goblet from Jerry Harper of Blacktoft, East Yorkshire with drip glazed rim and a single motif of the Sanctuary door knocker from Durham Cathedral. It is impressed  on the base with the Durham Cathedral stamp and Jerry Harper's Blacktoft, North Humberside mark, which I guess would date it from between 1974 & '96 when North Humberside disappeared and became the East Riding again.  In beautiful condition.

Large Pyrographed Wooden Shallow Bowl

SOLD

Souvenir type large shallow wooden bowl. It's in a typical folk art style, with the patterns burnt in (pyrography). It's been finished with a clear varnish on the top, unvarnished on the underside so looks a little rough and ready in places but it's generally in excellent condition.

Vintage Grey Lustre Candle Holder Centrepiece - Prinknash

Candle holder in the shape of a posy ring - ideal for a Christmas table centrepiece - by Prinknash Abbey Pottery. It's in their famous silver-grey lustre finish with an inpressed stamp on the base. I have to say, I have sold (and have indeed got a lot of unsold) a lot of Prinknash and rarely come across this style of mark so am unsure of the date - they used a variety over the years and are always a bit of a problem to date accurately. There is one small flea bite on the rim and a couple of other small marks but it's in otherwise very good condition.

Vintage Set of 3 Japanese Black Lacquer Hectagonal Boxes

A lovely set of 3 nested vintage Japanese black lacquer hectagonal boxes which have been in my partner's family for at least 50 years.  There is a charming pattern on each box in an orange colour and apart from some minor signs of wear (scuffs to the surfaces and minor scratches - do see the photos), these boxes are in very good condition.  Ideal for jewellery, trinkets or decoration.

Large box: 25cm x 22cm x 6cm

Vintage Stoneware Two-Handled Pot

Rather nice heavy stoneware pot with two handles in the style of a casserole. It's decorated with vague iris like designs in blues, green and brown. It may have had a lid at one time although it's not ridged. There is a mark on the base although I'm not quite sure whose it is - it looks similar to that of Alan Ashpool although I'm not totally convinced! However, it's in very good condition, although slightly crazed.

Vintage "Herbs" Wall Mounted Salt Pot - Taunton Vale

Hand-turned Wooden Lidded Bowl - Possibly Yew

Vintage Toast Rack and Oil Bottle - Rayware

Matching toast rack and oil bottle by Rayware. In a very summery blue with sunflowers they are a few years old as the Rayware logo isn't the current one. The toast rack appears perfect, the bottle has two or three chips to the spout, one more noticeable than the others, and is included here as an addition. The weight will not affect UK postage.

Vintage Stoneware Oil Pourer - Kathy Cartledge

SOLD

Lovely stoneware bottle, with handle, in blue with wax resist band around it. I thought it was Bentham Pottery but was thrown by the KC impressed on the base until I discovered that Kathy Cartledge founded Bentham Pottery and this was her mark between 1971 & 1980. It is in excellent condition for something that could be in excess of 40 years old with the glaze still having a high gloss.

Vintage Ebony Ashtray

SOLD

This has puzzled me! It's obviously an ashtray, with three grooves into a central hole. It appeared to have been turned from a single piece of wood but if you stick your finger in, the inside is bigger than it looks - how did they do that? But after several attempts to unscrew it, something moved - I haven't actually managed to unscrew it but it moved a couple of mm. Sit the base in something cold to contract it (remember if you choose cold water, ebony sinks) and you may be able to unscrew it properly but at least the mystery is solved. There is a hairline crack on the top half, not visible in the photos, but it's no threat to its integrity unless I imagine, you subject it to a great deal of pressure, and it remains a great piece. The base is somewhat scratched, I guess from manufacture, but it is otherwise in excellent condition.

Small Crimped Studio Pottery Vase with Petal Detail

Stoneware Candle Holder - Australian

SOLD

Rather nice stoneware "Wee Willie Winkie" type candle holder in a mixture of blue glazes. It's marked "Handcrafted in Townsville, Qld, Australia."  Townsville has a thriving pottery community although I can't identify the one responsible for this. It's in excellent condition although it has been used.

Vintage "Herbs" Sugar Bowl/Jam Pot - Taunton Vale

SOLD

1970s jam pot by Taunton Vale in the Herbs pattern. It is, unusually for Taunton Vale, uncrazed although the foot ring is stained from sitting on a tea swilled worktop. There is one very small chip to the underside of the rim but otherwise it's very presentable.

Studio Pottery Bowl - Bentham Pottery

From the Bentham Pottery on the edge of the North Yorkshire Dales this is a small pot in their signature wax resist banding although this is browns rather than the blue for which they are more well known. It is possible this once had a lid although it will make a lovely sugar bowl without one as it is in excellent condition.

Antique Stoneware Blacking Bottle - Doulton Lambeth

Mid sized antique heavy stoneware blacking bottle. It is stamped, one can just about make out the "lton" of Doulton and the number "42". It also has the original cork stopper. Something is rattling around inside although this may just be a piece of cork. It has a couple of small marks and one or two little chips, the least one could expect from a bottle of this age but is in overall very good condition.

Vintage Ceramic Lamp Base - Don Beckley Seaview Pottery Isle of Wight

SOLD

Lovely retro lamp base by Don Beckley of the Seaview Pottery on the Isle of Wight. It is decorated with bands of deep red, pinks blues and yellow with a sgraffito pattern about two thirds up. There is a standard bayonet bulb mount, cord and plug but I have not tested these. I will be willing to remove these should you wish but it will not affect the postage unless you are an overseas buyer. In otherwise excellent condition.

Vintage Toilet Roll Holder

SOLD

Rather nice vintage/retro toilet roll holder in, I think, stainless steel. It has a wooden roller, around a metal spindle held in place by the two knurled knobs. There are two mounting holes. It is perfectly serviceable and apart from some paint residue, which will remove with a little effort, and the roller perhaps needing a varnish or seal, is in excellent condition.

Roller length: 11.5cm (most toilet rolls are around 10.5-11cm width)

Mounting holes are centred 8.5cm apart

Depth: from top of plate to centre of spindle approx 9.5cm

Width: 17cm, roller sits approx 7cm proud from wall

Wooden Goblet Shaped Vase

Retro looking turned wooden goblet style vase. It is somewhat water splashed and has an odd stain on the bowl. It could be restored to a degree or left to patinate further - up to you. It's an intriguing shape and could still look good in the right environment.

Small hand Carved Ebony Crocodile

Hand Turned Ironwood Candle Holder

Unusually shaped dark reddish brown candleholder, hand turned from a very heavy piece of what appears to be mahogany or some kind of ironwood or lignum vitae (can you detect some bet hedging?). The bowl and stem are plain, the base bowl is carved with what could be a rhino and something similar. It is probably a souvenir but a well made one nevertheless. There are one or two very small marks but these mainly seem to be largely natural. It does look to have been stained but it is quite an impressive little piece nonetheless.

14cm x 7cm

Vintage Small Round Ebony Trinket Box

SOLD

Rather delightful little lidded pot, stamped on the base "Real Ebony". It does have a hairline crack in it, visible in the photos, but this doesn't detract and it's perfectly functional otherwise. It looks to be of some vintage judging by the patina but has very few signs of wear.

Vintage Small Wild Rose Butter Dish - Carlton Ware 2114

Small green butter dish by Carlton Ware in the 2114 Wild Rose pattern. It has the "Australian" backstamp, the form of which one Australian collector dates to pre-1951. "Wild Tudor" Leaf Tray - Aynsley

SOLD

Lovely leaf shaped bone china tray in the Wild Tudor pattern from Aynsley. Gold rimmed and in excellent condition with only very tiny drop outs in the gold edging giving any indication as to its age. Please note the dark mark on the pattern in the pictures has been removed and it now looks perfect. The backstamp though does have a deliberate scratch across it, invariably the sign that this is a factory second. Apart from the almost invisible wear to the gilding I can't see anything else to obviously warrant the designation but Aynsley quality control is/was exceptional and there must be something somewhere!
