Vintage Art Deco Pewter Tea Set by Craftsman, Sheffield

An Art Deco three-piece tea set by Craftsman of Sheffield. It comprises a squat oriental, magic lamp style tea pot, milk/cream jug and a sugar bowl. They are of a hammered finish, each with a studded band around the waist. The pot has an ornate Bakelite handle and knob. All items are in pretty good condition with the jug having only the most minor bumps, dents and scratches. The bowl is slightly flattened around its waist for about 1.5cm but is otherwise very good. The pot is also in very good condition although the base has suffered a few knocks. This is quite normal as pewter will become malleable with heat and as this has been used many times (tannin stains inside attest to this) it goes without saying that the hot surfaces will doubtless be more prone to some distortion. This may also explain why the handle is slightly off-kilter by a degree or so. Despite this it appears sound; I can't see any cracks and I have tested it with cold water which didn't reveal any leaks. The Craftsman mark was used by Viner's between 1926 and 1939 so this set can be considered a genuine vintage piece and consequently any marks and damage are consistent with its age.

All measurements approx:
Pot: 12cm tall, max diameter incl handle: 24cm
Jug: 7cm tall, 11.5 cm, max diameter,
Sugar bowl: 8cm tall, 13.5 cm max diameter incl handles.

Grey and Unglazed Vintage Japanese Studio Pottery Bowl

Mid-sized earthenware bowl from Japan. The inside and rim are glazed in grey, the rest is unglazed. Around the rim are two grooves and underneath this are repeated diagonal stamps, one of which is repeated on the base. The other mark is in a kidney shaped outline. I've tried to research it but Japanese pottery is a labrynthine subject; the only help we can offer is that it was probably obtained by my partner's parents while living in Japan in the early 1990s. They also lived there in the early 60s but this looks to be of a later design. They also visited Mashiko a lot but this probably isn't from there!

Measurements: 19cm diameter x 6cm

Weight including packaging: 1.2kg

Outdoor Tap with Brass Frog Handle

SOLD

This is an outdoor tap, suitable for standpipes or, with a suitable flange or mounting plate, as a water butt fitting and featuring a brass frog instead of a handle. It has been used as there is some verdigris and remnants of PTFE tape on the thread. I have tested it by virtue of filling it with water and while not a completely reliable test it did confirm that it does drip a bit from the stem so it may need a new washer but if you're a competent plumber this is not beyond you. While this probably isn't a complete item - some come with a backplate for mounting into a butt - new ones are in the £35 area so if you're after a budget functioning item this could be for you.

Fittings I would imagine are 19mm/3/4" BSP thread although this is, I hasten to add untested but the evidence of it having been used suggest it's pretty much standard.

Art Deco Style Mustard Yellow Glaze Vase by Brixham Pottery, Devon

Lovely small mustard yellow art deco style vase with a very pretty swirly pattern in brown. There is one pock mark that happened during glazing and if you look closely the vase is crazed. There is a stamp on the base stating 'Brixham Pottery Devon' and 'Made in England'. The condition of the vase is perfect with no hairline cracks, flea bites or chips.

All measurements approximate: 14cm (h) x 8.5cm (d) (at it's widest)

Approx weight with packaging: 800g

Large Ornate Pitcher with Drip Glaze by Baroque England

Large ornate pitcher with a green glazed embossed floral design. The base is the original green, the rest has had a rather lovely light green to white drip glaze applied in a West German hot lava style. It's very striking. I haven't a clue as to the maker - it is marked "Baroque England" which could be the style rather than pottery and there's a monogram CL or LC, which I have seen before but have been unable to trace. It doesn't look too vintage but it could quite easily have been kept on display as it's in excellent condition.

Measurements are approximate:
23cm x 18cm across handle

Weight with packaging: approx 2000g.

Vintage Yellow Acanthus Leaf Bowl - Mould No 4665 by SylvaC

Small bowl - sugar bowl size - mould number 4665, with acanthus leaf and oval design in yellow/brown glaze with a brown ring inside the rim. The impressed base suggests 40s - 50s. It's quite crazed as one would expect from a vintage SylvaC and apart from a few small offcuts or shavings that appear to have got stuck to the edge and glazed (possibly making it a sceond), it's in fine condition.

Measurements are approximate:
12.5cm x 5cm

Weight with packaging: approx 750g.

Long Hand Made Studio Pottery Dish - New Forest Pottery

SOLD

Very nice handmade rustic oval dish in a green glaze impressed with what were probably real leaves, twigs and berries and then handpainted in subtle browns and greens, the veins on the leaves looking like very clever use of the crackle glaze. The underside looks to have been textured with burlap or something similar. It's in superb condition.

26cm x 11.5cm x 3xm

Weight with packaging: approx 800g.

African Handcarved Wooden Tribal Bust

Striking and very characterful wooden bust of an African tribesperson. I'm guessing it's a woman from the facial characteristics although there are no other obvious clues, and to be fair it could quite easily be a man! She has her eyes closed and is wearing a heart shaped necklace. I doubt if it is of any great antiquity, the patina could be applied rather than earned but nevertheless it's a very nice piece, highly attractive and well executed. No damage as far as I can see - the cracks are natural and there don't appear to be any dents or knocks.

Measurements (approx)
30cm x 10cm x 12cm

Weight with packaging: 2kg - UK Bidders only.

Vintage German Ceramic Planter by Scheurich

SOLD

A typically German faintly hot lava style ceramic planter from Shceurich Keram. The pattern number is 882 and it's cream around the middle with darker, brown bands top and bottom. The middle is decorated with relief flowers. Vintage - marked W.Germany so before reunification. Condition is fair; some crazing and the top brown band has some water and sun fading.

Measurements are approximate:
14cm (d) x 12cm (h)

Weight with packaging: approx 1100g.

Small Decorative Earthenware Dish with Bird Design

Very nice rustic small earthenware dish in a rough blue glaze with a design of raised brown circles and white dots around the edge and a lovely wading bird in yellow in the centre. It was designed to hang but the surface of the base where the hole was driven through has snapped through (was made too thin). It's not severe and doesn't affect the look of the piece at all, it just means it wobbles slightly when you put it down flat. Still a strikingly lovely little dish.

12.5cm diameter x 2cm.

Weight with packaging: 400g.

Vintage German Stein - Marzi & Remy

Very nice but unspectacular German beer stein from Marzi & Remy. The mark on the base dates it from post 1964 although I have not been able to date it exactly. The style suggests late 60s although I could be wrong. There is a number 6 or 9 on the base but nothing else, not even a capacity mark. Condition is extremely good, only one or two very tiny chips to the glaze around the base but these do not detract from the overall quality.

Measurements approx
Height 16cm
Across base 10cm
Across rim 7.3cm

Weight with packaging approx 1200g  UK Postage only

Vintage Taunton Vale Sugar/Flour Sifter

This is a vintage Taunton Vale sugar or flour sifter. White glazed with rope and herbs transfer decoration. In very good condition although like most vintage Taunton Vale it's suffered some crazing. It has a plastic stopper in the base that I can't easily remove (I haven't tried to force it) so I can't tell what the internal condition is. If soaked in warm water for a while this may well remove easier. This may well suggest though that it's rarely, if ever, been used.

Measurements: 13cm H x 12cm max dia incl handle.

Weight with packaging: approx 750g UK Postage Only.

Vintage Belgian Lace Bread Roll Holder - Never Used

Very pretty vintage bread roll holder made out of Belgian lace. The base is a round piece of linen with some Belgian lace stitched onto it and on top of that is another piece of Belgian lace with a piece of linen stitched onto it. Two draw strings have been threaded through the lace and when pulled and tied on each side form a pretty and dainty lace bread roll bowl. Some of the pictures show the linen to be an off-white colour - the lace is definitely white!

This has never been used and was a gift from a Belgian mother-in-law about 30 years ago.

100% Cotton.

Measurements approx and unstretched:
Diameter of base of inner 'bowl': 15cm
Diameter including the lace edging: 29cm
Height: +/- 4cm

Weight with packaging: approx 100g.

Important Announcement - New Postage Rates

In a cynical attempt to cash in on the online market, The Royal Mail has decided to tinker with the pricing and formats of its parcels service with changes becoming effective on Tuesday, 2nd April.

Letter post will remain unaffected but two new parcel rates, medium and large parcels, are being introduced and the airmail price stages are changing from 100g to 250g. For small volume businesses such as ourselves it will unfortunately mean some changes to our P & P charges. A lot of our smaller ceramic items for instance, which we posted for £2.30, will now attract a £5+  charge. On the plus side for our overseas customers, those items presently just under the 250g, 500g, 750g thresholds will actually be cheaper to send. Details of the price and format changes can be found on the Royal Mail site here. Download a PDF here

Due to the bank holidays our last posting day under the old prices will be Saturday. We are working hard to introduce the new changes but it will take time as we have little option other than to manually alter many of our listings so we would appreciate it if you didn't pay immediately but allowed us to invoice you with the new rates if applicable. If you purchase any of our fixed priced listings after Saturday please be aware there may well be a surcharge on some items.

Many apologies for these changes and for any inconvenience but they are totally out of our control. We are though looking at alternative solutions.

Curio Gifts.

Pair of China Ginger Jars by James Sadler

A pair of pretty ginger jars by James Sadler in a blue blossom pattern. They are a later model, as evidenced by the mark. One has a tiny chip on the edge of the lid, visible in the picture (right) but otherwise they are in excellent condition.

Weight with packaging: approx 3000g. (UK Bidders only).

Vintage Rough Finish Stoneware Jug - Hartrox

Do you collect Hartrox Stoneware? It was produced by Hartleys of Castleford, in the West Riding between about 1952 and 1960. The Hartrox range was very popular and is still sought after by collectors. We've had a few of the glazed items before but this mid-sized milk jug is of the rarer rough "combed" unglazed range - large, very rough and let's be honest, a challenge to clean! Smooth and glazed inside, obviously. This does have a couple of marks, mainly on the handle, but with care these could be cleaned off. Otherwise it's in great condition.

15cm high and 15cm diameter (including the handle).

Weight: 1200g including packaging. Will post abroad but it will be expensive.
