Souvenir Earthenware Candle Holder - Gladstone Pottery Museum, Longton

Nice earthenware candleholder with handle decorated with brown slip and tube lined dots and strokes in orange. It's from the Gladstone Pottery Mueum in Longton, Stoke on Trent, a museum housed with the last complete Victorian pottery factory in the country. Stamped with the museum mark on the base and in excellent condition.

Hand Carved Bird Handled Scoop

SOLD

Large bowled spoon or scoop with a bird as the handle. It looks to be carved from horn although I can make no guarantees on this as there are some very convincing plastics. It is though hand finished, the legs being done with a fretsaw or similar and and the detail on the wings and feathers being engraved. A little bit of wear but in very good condition otherwise.

Vintage Devon Ware Sauce Boat and Saucer - Fieldings

The backstamp dates this to between 1917 & 1930 or thereabouts. It's a small yellow Devon Ware sauce boat and saucer by Fieldings. Both parts are crazed and a there are a couple of chips to the edge of the saucer. Unfortunately there's a crack in the handle by the bottom join. Still looks quite good though.

Pair of Vintage Gold Rimmed Candle Holders - Prinknash Abbey Pottery

A pair of rather nice candle holders by Prinknash in their rather more decorative and less well-known blue floral pattern. They are cream with gold edging and apart from some minor crazing are in excellent condition and would grace any mantlepiece or table.

Miniature Brass Coal Scuttle Planter

Small but heavy miniature coal scuttle with hinged handle. It's made with a very thick grade plate meaning it's quite robust. The loop looks to have been soldered on as an afterthought although it could just be worn. This belonged to a friend who used it as a small planter for many years so there are some blemishes and stains and a little verdigris but some time on a buffer will get it shining again.

Stoneware studio pottery moneybox in the shape of an elephant. It's quite small but also very heavy. There's no bung in the bottom but the slot is very large so there would be no difficulty in removing any coins. No maker's name and in excellent condition.

Small Stoneware Bowl - JH

Small shallow stoneware bowl in rings of white, clear and brown glaze. It is impressed "Jh" on the base  and while there are many potters with those initials I couldn't find one with the matching style. It's in great condition though.

Large Stoneware Salt Pig

Very large stoneware salt pig in a speckled light yellow green glaze. It has a panel below the wide mouth with "salt" impressed on it, very much in the style of Tremar but it is rougher in finish and a slightly different style and colouration to their output. It is marked, a small square impression on the base but I can't match it to any reference. It is in very good condition although it does have a few small nips around the mouth, largely because the texture of the clay is very granular. However it still has a huge amount of life left in it.

Hand thrown studio pottery style stoneware jam or honey pot. Heavily ringed, white wash glash and a notched lid (although no spoon or dipper). Vintage "Harvest" Sandwich Platter - Swinnertons

Cream coloured sandwich platter in the Harvest pattern by Swinnertons of Hanley. The pattern is I think violets and primroses, the edge is gadrooned with gold lines either side, the outer one of which is slightly worn in places. There are also two ancient chips to the footring, neither of which threaten the overall integrity of the plate. The Swinnertons as a company ceased in 1973 after the parent company was absorbed into Doulton's but the name itself probably wasn't used after the early 1960s. This item may date from the 1920s or later.

Small Earthenware Pot - Zambia

Small earthenware pot with a blue speckled glaze interior. It is slightly irregular and has impressed patterns in the style of ethnic decorated pottery on the outside surface. it is incised "Zambia" on the base. It is possibly a souvenir piece from that country but in reality could be from anywhere so I make no claims otherwise. It is though a pleasing piece.
