Unusual Studio Pottery Spiky Stoneware Pot

Really unusal stoneware pot. Highly textured with rows of blunted spikes, it resembles a cross between a durian fruit and a F1 car tyre. The glaze is blue and brown and it comes with a lid (which I have to admit, is pretty poorly fitting owing to the lack of a decent rim). It is signed on the base but I can't really make it out. It looks like Pat Ford or Hart although I can't find a potter of this name in my books. In excellent condition.

Hand Turned Ball Shaped Wooden Lidded Pot

SOLD

Very novel small hand turned spherical pot with small lid, about the size of a large orange. It's deeply grooved with concentric rings and sits on an integral pedestal. Beautifully coloured, dark on one side, honey the other and it's completely hollowed out. Appears to be a few years old so has one or two small marks and the lid takes a little manipulation to squeeze on in otherwise excellent condition.

Antique Stoneware Ink Bottle - Doulton or Stiff Lambeth

Small dark brown salt glazed stoneware ink bottle. An oval stamp bears is on the edge of the base but it is a little squashed. It's in either the style of Doulton or Stiff of Lambeth but the lettering is difficult to make out. A couple of small chips on the base but otherwise in excellent condition.

Small Antique Stoneware Preserve or Mustard Jar

Small treacle coloured stoneware preserve or mustard pot. Lipped neck for a waxed paper top. There's a V shaped impression in the centre of the base with what looks to be a very faint number, A44 perhaps, near the edge. In very good condition.

Vintage Charrington Jubilee Stout Ashtray

Vintage Portuguese made pub ashtray advertising Charrington's Jubilee Stout. Rectangular with an oval bowl featuring the Jubilee Stout name and the Charrington Toby jug logo. The company merged with Bass in the late 1960s so I would hazard that this is from the early to mid 1960s. The gold edging is a little worn in places and there's a little chip on one edge but otherwise it's in very good condition.

Vintage Royal Buff Little Brown Jug Cream Jug - W.H. Goss - Collectable

Cream or milk jug dating from around the 1930s in the Royal Buff range by WH Goss and featuring the verse from "Little Brown Jug". The butterscotch jug is decorated with brown lines along the handle and around the rim and is in pretty much perfect condition. I can't see any cracks or chips but there are one or two very faint marks to the surface, which is to be expected.

Small but pleasingly heavy khaki coloured flagon from the Rookes Pottery of Ipstones in the Peak District. I think the pottery may have now ceased production although there is a shop and gallery on the site. In excellent condition although the cork will need replacing.

Vintage Pink Lustreware Majestic Window Vase - Sadler

Wide, boat shaped window vase in the Majestic pattern by Sadler. It is finished in pink lustre glaze with gilded handles and edge. Unusually, it still has the dedicated wire lattice arranging frame. The gilding is a touch worn in places, especially around the pedestal. There is also an original notch in one of the scallop 'v's on the rim near one of the handles. A very fine hairline crack, barely visible, has extended from this for a cm or two but it doesn't appear to be threatening the integrity of the vase. The Sadler impression on the base is of pre WW2 vintage but the plastic coating of the wire frame would seem to negate that era and I suspect this may be possibly be post-war. Nice looking piece though  .

Vintage Stoneware Chalice Style Goblet - St Keyne Pottery

Small chalice style stoneware goblet by St Keyne Pottery of Liskeard, Cornwall. I can find very little about this pottery other than some other pictures and this appears to be very much a house style with slip glaze and indented letter shapes. It's a nice piece though and in excellent condition.

Large Japanese Style Studio Pottery Teapot

Large capacity teapot, about the size of a small watermelon, in a very Japanese inspired design. I am unsure of its provenance. It is unmarked but someone has written "Jap Portreath Pottery" on the base in blue marker. I can find no reference to a pottery in Portreath so it's a bit of a mystery. The design is a fairly common one, used by many studios so no clues there, either. It has loops each side of the lid for a bamboo or wicker handle so a degree of craftmanship will be required to make this serviceable but in all other respects it's in excellent condition.

Vintage Colour Guide to Compton Acres, Poole

Very much in the style and design of the Pitkin Pictorial range this appears to be an independently published official guide to the gardens of Compton Acres in Poole, Dorset. Judging by the telephone numbers used in the book and the advert on the back inside cover it would appear to date from the early 1970s, although considerable portions of the text appear more dated. Regardless, it is fully illustrated with many colour and b & w pictures and is in very good condition with only very light wear.
