Small East German Fata Lava Style Vase - 4078 VEB Haldensleben

Small brown vase by the East German state owned company, VEB Haldensleben. It's their 4078 pattern and has a serpentine relief edged band around the middle in a "fat lava" style. It has a tiny chip on the edge of the neck (see photo) but otherwise is in excellent condition. Great retro item.

Vintage German Single Stem Red & Gold Bud Vase - Retro

SOLD

Slender bud vase in gold edged dark red that graduates to almost black around the lip and foot. The interior is white. The foot and edge are decorated with gold, the line around the edge being slightly worn through use. No makers mark although it is  impressed "Germany" and "52/17" on the base,17 being the height in cm. I think it's more 1960s or 70s (Some German potters did not mark "W" or "West" during the partition). Apart from the wear to the gilding it's in excellent condition.

16cm x 5.5cm

German Decorative Stein - Schilz

German stoneware beer mug/stein by Schilz of Höhr-Grenzhausen. It is in a speckled brown finish with brown and blue swags and incidental decoration. I have no idea of the date - Post 1952 when the logo was adopted and probably post reunification so I have cautiously opted for 1990s. Apart from a couple of stains on the inside it's in excellent condition.

Vintage German or Austrian Squat Double Handled Pot

Hand painted two handled pot with the base mark "2978" in what appears to be a German or Austrian style. It's quite squat so would be ideal for large posies and apart from what looks to be original shrinkage of the colour around the rim, is in excellent condition.

Limited Edition Vase - German - Gilde Exclusive Künstlerkeramik - E.Langert

This is a gorgeous hand painted art pottery vase, No 118 of a limited edition of 500 decorated and signed by E. Langert in 1998. It's by Gilde Exclusive Künstlerkeramik and still has an original label and price label on (DM 134.90 in 1998 - About £48 in 1998). There is one label missing - this would have said "Echt Vergoldert" indicating that the gold lining was with real gold. It's in beautiful condition although it does appear to have been used owing to the fragments of oasis in the base (the plant holder foam, not discarded bits of the Gallagher brothers).

Vintage German Jug

This is a vintage German jug/vase. I have no idea of the maker or date as the base just says "Germany 557". This could easily be from any era - some manufacturers' marks took no notice of partition but the design suggests 50s/60s. It's quite striking, with a run brown/damson glaze over white with a spot of bright orange and green on the handle.

15.5cm (h) x 9cm (h)

Vintage German Stein - Marzi & Remy

Very nice but unspectacular German beer stein from Marzi & Remy. The mark on the base dates it from post 1964 although I have not been able to date it exactly. The style suggests late 60s although I could be wrong. There is a number 6 or 9 on the base but nothing else, not even a capacity mark. Condition is extremely good, only one or two very tiny chips to the glaze around the base but these do not detract from the overall quality.

Measurements approx
Height 16cm
Across base 10cm
Across rim 7.3cm

Weight with packaging approx 1200g  UK Postage only

Vintage German Stoneware Wine Jug by Wick-Werke

CURRENTLY AT AUCTION.

Beautiful grey stoneware jug by Wick-Werke featuring a relief of two young children carrying a large bunch of grapes with detailing picked out in cobalt blue. The motto across it reads "Trinkt wie eure Väter aus Stein den Wein" which translates roughly as "Drink as your fathers, wine from the stone" although we don't have a suitable English word meaning stone(ware) to rhyme with wine. Stein is actually short for stoneware and does not, as is erroneously thought, mean a drinking vessel . The numerous marks on the base suggest it is an early-ish example - WW were making these for much of their existence, from 1922 until they went bankrupt in 1984, the later models being lighter in colour with more rounded "W" markings on the base and with the relief in to be honest, poor quality. The detailing on the faces of the children on this one is exceptional, far better than later models I've seen. I would hazard a guess at it being pre-war, maybe even late Weimar - the "29" may be a clue. If it were immediate post war it would probably have had occupation markings and the later ones almost certainly marked West Germany. It is in exceptional condition.

13cm (h) x 11cm diameter across handle.

Weight with packaging: 600g.
