Vintage Carved Wood Candlesticks

A pair of carved candlesticks that look to be ebony at first glance but is most probably stained as there is a nick to the base of one where a lighter wood shows through. Quite heavy and dense though and they ring when knocked together. They are carved with grazing deer or antelope around the stem and top and are possibly African. The bases aren't uniformly flat so they will need stabilising before a candle is inserted. Nice looking pair.

Vintage Handcarved Wooden African Mancala or Owari Game

Hand carved wooden traditional African pit and pebble or mancala game. This variant is usually known as wari or owari but there are variants with different names from around the world.  This is two long hinged wooden sections with six pits in each and 48 seeds, although there are four seeds missing but these can be easily replaced with pebbles. One side is carved with a simple leaf design, the other plain. It is not latched. There's some age related wear but otherwise it's in very good condition.

Hand Made East African Bao or Mancala Game

SOLD

This is a small hand made version of the traditional East African mancala type game of "bao". It is four rows of eight pits with 64 "seeds". It is made from a heavy wood that has, I think, been stained black to resemble ebony (there is a little knock to one end through which a much lighter wood is showing). The two sides are hinged together and each is carved with a stylised elephant and trees. It has a pleasing rustic feel while no doubt having been made for the souvenir trade. There should be 64 seeds although there are only 45 present here. I dare say some spares would not be hard to come by. There are also no rules but a quick search of the internet reveals there are several forms of the game and a set of rules shouldn't be too hard to come by.  Overall general condition is very good and it's a nice piece to sit on the sideboard.

Tribal Souvenir Art - Carved Wooden Serving Spoons

Rather nice pair of serving or salad spoons, hand carved from what looks to be a very dark wood ironwood, which may be ebony although it doesn't quite seem black enough; it is certainly very hard. The handles feature a nicely rendered grazing antelope or similar. Lovely items, in excellent condition.
