Very simple wooden darning mushroom. Looks to be made out of ash or similar light wood, the handle unscrews (will be unscrewed for postage) and the centre of the handle has been reamed out for needle storage. Difficult to age - it does have some sticky label residue that looks to be well established and my mother has one that looks of similar condition but is way older than I am (never see 52 again). In excellent condition and will provide decades of future service either as a useful practical item or an ornament.
